In a world where the role of motherhood often goes unnoticed, it’s time to shed light on its true significance.
As women, we dedicate ourselves wholeheartedly to nurturing and raising little human beings, and it’s undoubtedly one of our greatest achievements in life. The joy of witnessing our child’s first steps, hearing their first words, and supporting them through every stage of life is incomparable. Motherhood encompasses a myriad of responsibilities, making it an all-encompassing and invaluable contribution to our families, society, and our own personal growth. It’s a transformative journey that forever changes us.
Yet, despite the immense importance of motherhood, our society tends to diminish its value. As women age, we face ageism, and society often discourages us from pursuing new dreams and passions. We’re told that sharing our age might hinder our employability or that certain aspirations are out of reach at a certain stage in life, such as a career in music.
But let’s challenge these limiting beliefs and embrace a new narrative.
As we step into this new era, where individuals over 45 are redefining what’s possible, we must become role models for the younger generations of women. We can show them, through our actions and creations, that age should never be a barrier to pursuing our dreams and passions.
Each of us has a unique story to tell, and I believe we must take a chance, be brave and tell these stories. With the creation of my shows, El Vito! a one woman show and I am Maria! I have refused to give up on my dreams and I hope I can inspire others to do the same. Whatever we create through music can become a powerful means of communication, a platform to inspire others not to let go of their dreams, but to fight for them relentlessly.
For the young, classically trained singers out there, and also female singers and creators of my generation, let me be a living testament that anything is possible. Age should never hinder our artistic expression or desire to make a difference through music. Let’s inspire, let’s sing, let’s dream, and let’s support each other in creating a world where age knows no bounds and where our dreams are the driving force behind our achievements.
So, I urge you all to seize this moment, this opportunity, and fearlessly pursue your passions. Share your stories with the world, and I will be cheering you on every step of the way, just as I hope you’ll be cheering for me too.
