Learning a musical instrument as an adult can have numerous benefits, both for your personal growth and overall well-being.

Here are some reasons why you might consider taking up an instrument:

Firstly, learning a musical instrument can be an excellent way to reduce stress and improve your mental health. Research has shown that playing music can help lower cortisol levels, the hormone associated with stress, and increase the release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and motivation.

Secondly, playing a musical instrument can help improve your memory and cognitive function. Learning and playing music requires the brain to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously, such as reading sheet music, keeping time, and creating a melody. This can help improve your memory and concentration, and even delay cognitive decline in older adults.

Thirdly, playing music can be a great way to express yourself creatively and connect with others. Whether you're playing solo or in a group, music can be a powerful way to communicate and share emotions. It can also be a great way to meet new people and form social connections.

Here's what some of our adult students have to say about our adult's music lessons at Brookfield Music:

"I started singing lessons with Brookfield Music two years ago and have recently added guitar lessons. I’m in my 50’s and wanted to learn new skills but also just have fun- Brookfield Music ticks both these boxes! My music lesson is the highlight of my week and brings me a great sense of satisfaction as I progress and also a great sense of joy. Layla is an incredible teacher- so generous, patient and encouraging. Couldn’t recommend Brookfield Music more!!"

I have been an adult student with Brookfield music for four years. Layla is incredibly organised and her instructors warm, friendly and extremely good at their chosen instrument. Whether you are 5; 50 or 70 you get a program tailored to you. I love my voice lessons. I also love watching the children before me enjoying learning music. Making learning FUN! That’s what they do. Thanks Layla and team, you are the best!
