Meet Rueben, our Violin & Viola teacher

Rueben has been passionate about music for as long as he can remember. Originally from Australia, he spent over a decade living in Germany, where he completed both a Bachelor of Music at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold and a Master's degree in Violin Performance at the Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg. During this time he studied with internationally respected violinists and performed extensively as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral musician throughout Europe.

Rueben believes that every student learns differently. His lessons are engaging, encouraging and tailored to each individual's goals, whether they dream of playing in an orchestra, preparing for AMEB exams, performing on stage, or simply playing their favourite tunes for family and friends.

Learning to play the violin has been a childhood dream of mine, and I’ve finally been able to carve out some time to pursue it. After an enjoyable trial lesson, I signed up as a regular student and haven't looked back! My teacher, Reuben, is absolutely amazing. He is incredibly patient and explains everything so well, from technical elements like correct posture to the music itself. Even when my work week gets hectic, I genuinely look forward to my lessons. I can’t wait to keep learning, and I highly recommend Brookfield Music to anyone looking to start their own musical journey!

What's the Difference?

Although they look similar, the violin and viola each have their own special sound.

Violin

The violin is the smallest member of the string family and has a bright, sparkling sound. It often plays the melody in orchestras and is heard in many styles of music, including classical, pop, jazz, folk, and film soundtracks.

Viola

The viola is slightly larger than the violin and has a warm, rich, mellow tone. It provides beautiful harmonies and is loved for its deep, expressive sound.

Learning Through Fun

Lessons are filled with games, songs, creative activities, and age-appropriate challenges to keep children excited about learning. Beginners start with the basics, including posture, holding the bow, making their first sounds, and reading simple music.

As students grow, they learn new songs, improve their technique, and gain confidence performing for family, friends, or at special concerts.

A Musical Journey for Every Student

Every person learns differently, which is why lessons are personalised to suit each student's age, experience, and goals.

With encouragement, practice, and a positive learning environment, students quickly discover the joy of creating music. Along the way, musicians develop valuable life skills, celebrate exciting milestones, and experience the satisfaction of mastering something new.
